Welcome, everyone. In today's blog, I will be reviewing a book titled 'Usri Yusra' by Husna Hussain, which was published monthly in the Shuaa Digest. Let's delve into the review.

Synopsis

The novel centers around two characters, Faris Wajdan and Jannat Kamal. It delves into their individual struggles, as they both endure abandonment by their own kin. Eventually, they serendipitously cross paths and discover a deep connection that was destined to unite them.

Among the other key characters in the story are Jameela Dawood, Faris's step-mother, and Dr. Mustafa, Jannat's grandfather. Additionally, Azam Sherazi plays a significant role as Faris's grandfather.

Genre: Spiritual, mystery, Romance.

Review

Warning: May Contain Spoilers.

The writer draws a parallel between the struggles faced by the characters in the book and a verse from the Quran that translates to "Indeed with hardship is ease." This verse signifies that hardship and ease are intertwined aspects of life. They are not separate, but rather, they coexist and follow each other. Through this connection, the writer aims to convey a powerful message: if we demonstrate patience during difficult times, complain less, and increase our prayers, then God will eventually alleviate the pain and challenges we are enduring.

The story unfolds with Jannat and Faris newly married, although for Faris, it was a marriage imposed upon him. He confesses to Jannat, in a fit of anger, that he intends to divorce her soon. Jannat, taken aback by this revelation, is left in a state of shock. Despite her sincere efforts, she finds herself unable to win his heart. As the story unfolds, we gradually become aware of her past, the hardships she has faced, and the circumstances that led to her marriage with Faris.

Initially, the reader may perceive Faris as a rude and undeserving man, given his behavior towards Jannat. However, as the story progresses, his past is gradually unveiled, shedding light on the reasons behind his current demeanor. Moreover, an intriguing revelation emerges, as it becomes evident that there is a childhood connection between Faris and Jannat.

Likes:

I thoroughly enjoyed the writer's exquisite writing style, which beautifully portrayed every scene, whether it was filled with romance or trauma. Reading the book allowed me to deeply connect with the emotions of both characters, experiencing their sufferings and joys alongside them. I also found the characters of Jamila Dawud and Dr. Mustafa endearing, as their love and affection towards Jannat and Faris were depicted beautifully. Additionally, the presence of other beloved characters such as Aqsa, Adeel, and Faris's friends from his past added depth and charm to the story

Another aspect that I truly appreciated in the story was when Faris acknowledges his love for Jannat and sincerely apologizes for his past behavior. However, Jannat doesn't readily forgive him and takes her time to process her emotions, which I found to be commendable. This portrayal of her character's strength and resilience added depth to their relationship and made the story more realistic and relatable.

Dislikes:

While there was very little to dislike about the story, one aspect that failed to resonate with me was the portrayal of Azam Sherazi's character towards the end. The story depicted Azam Sherazi's behavior as tormenting towards Faris during his childhood, only to later reveal that his intentions were actually driven by a desire for Faris's well-being.

The characters I found unlikable were Adeena, Burhan, Faris's mother and father, and Jannat's sisters.

At last I want to say that, I thoroughly enjoyed the book's writing style and the way it portrayed the emotions and experiences of the characters.

Overall, the book seems to convey the message that patience, prayer, and trusting God with a positive mindset can lead to the easing of hardships and challenges. It explores the complexities of relationships, past traumas, and personal growth through the experiences of Jannat and Faris.
